Comments

Turkish Baths’ users represented a wide range of people from Newcastle and across the region, who came to use the facilities. It was also used by visitors to the city including acts who were playing next door at the City Hall.

Here are some of the comments previous baths’ users have said.

Charles Gordon, Over-60s Higgs Boson Swimmers Group:

“I swim five times a week. The chaps I see at the baths are nearly all retired people… from a mix of backgrounds, location and education. We laugh with each other and support each other, wind each other up and commiserate when the need arises… We are just ‘ordinary people’ trying to make ends meet, trying to get along on our pensions and trying to keep fit and mentally alert…. The loss of our pool is for us, a sign of the total hopelessness of the state of our country…. We swimmers will find another pool in which to swim, but our country may never recover from yet another example of a valued service being ripped savagely and mercilessly from our desperate grasp.”

Turkish Baths campaigner, Joan Hewitt said:

“The Baths have been scandalously under- promoted for years and that is why they are underused. Millions are being spent on improving Central station as the gateway to the City; yet a facility that should be promoted as a top visitor attraction, as Harrogate and Carlisle have done, is neglected. The danger is that once closed, they will stay closed and fall into disuse. Any private company who buys them will have no loyalty to the people of Newcastle and no incentive to maintain public sector prices for residents, alongside the price rises for spa treatments which our campaign survey has shown that students, business people, and out- of-town users and visitors would happily support. The council say they are investigating a Leisure Trust option. Let those MPS and councillors who say they deeply regret this loss ensure the Baths are reopened; and soon. Use them or lose them.”

Actress, Charlie Hardwick, a regular user of the Turkish Baths, added:

“I can’t believe that this great city will lose its municipal swimming pool and the magnificent and unique Turkish Baths and sauna that nestle beneath.  Surely the health and well-being of its citizens is paramount? The Labour Council should be utterly ashamed of itself and fighting tooth and nail to find ways to save it.  Just like we are.”

Photographer, Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen, who has lived in Newcastle since arriving in the 1970s added:

“For someone coming from the Finnish sauna culture, The Turkish Baths in Newcastle have offered me the warmest welcome in this city where the bitter winds bite into your bones like no frost dares. I have been coming to the baths for some forty years, and in its many-chambered sanctuary met up with friends, their friends, daughters, daughters’ friends and friendly strangers for talk and quiet, my space and their space blending happily in the blur of the steam.  When travelling abroad, we search for the ancient souls of the cities and are disappointed to come across a yet another Starbucks and the chain shop shopping malls. If that is all Newcastle in the end has to offer, why bother coming here?”

Sarah Campbell, Councillor for City of North Bay, Ontario, Canada wrote to Newcastle City Council:

“You have a building that would be cost prohibitive to replace with all its historical features alone, and to loose this, for this shortfall is beyond ridiculous. I can only dream of having such an asset on which to market quality of life and economic development, and business with pleasure with advertising that really catches the eye. You have a gem, and a marketing asset. It’s beyond comprehension to close its doors.”

Here are some of the quotes from people who completed our recent survey

Feb 10 2015
I really miss this service and would definitely be a regular user if this was to re-open

Feb 10 2015
I miss it! Please reopen.

Feb 10 2015
Really miss the bath it was an accessible way to de-stress

Feb 10 2015
Please open the baths my body hurts.

Feb 10 2015
Good luck!

Feb 10 2015
In Harrogate they do they run historical tours etc may be worth considering … it was never promoted enough ..

Feb 10 2015
One of the off putting things previously was it feeling a bit run down & this raises hygiene concerns (be them real or perceived) so just ensuring it feels clean & functional will be great. Perhaps ensuring privacy too & encouraging a more professional type visitor? I don’t think people would be expecting a luxury feel at all, but this offers an opportunity in that introducing some simple flourishes would have a really lovely impact. Maybe also consider the full, overall experience eg. Would people be able to perhaps read during their time there, be it magazines or books, & how about enjoying a glass of wine after their time in the baths? I can imagine many would arrange to go with others so the idea of going for a catch up and then drink afterwards would be an ideal way to encourage more leisurely visits and a good type of clientele.

Feb 9 2015
I hope to see the pool open as well. A package of both is important to me.

Feb 9 2015
We can’t let this die off. Keeping them open and affordable to everyone is what’s needed. So many swimming pools are closing or the prices are very high unless your a member. This is an opportunity to keep a Newcastle landmark and provide a service that people would love to use.

Feb 9 2015
If it was marketed differently it could be amazing and very profitable. Newcastle City Council were mad to close it – they had no appreciation of it’s true value and no creative long-term vision. It was a jewel in the heart of Newcastle and yet many people didn’t know it existed. They would have used it if they had known it was there!

Feb 8 2015
I miss having a turkish bath, there is no where else to go . Disappointing

Feb 8 2015
Miss the turkish baths so much there is nothing comparable in the area…and i live in Hexham.

Feb 7 2015
Great idea. Open at weekends to maximise business from working folk.

Feb 6 2015
You deserve to be successful – good luck with it all.

Feb 6 2015
Good luck with this! My friends and I have really missed the baths.

Feb 6 2015
Should never have been closed in the first place

Feb 6 2015
Would love to have them open again

Feb 5 2015
What about tapping into the hot spring they have found in Newcastle. Aka thermal Spa? Like Bath a cool plunge pool like Harrogate ? How about a glass roof for some starlight thermal bathing? Keep it inspired by nature and affordable. I’d like to work there I am a Yoga Teacher and a Complimentary therapist. What about a whole foods cafe and a garden feature like the ham mam mosque baths in Paris and then get all Gps to refer to the baths for complaints such as Arthritis stress etc etc like they do in France & Budapest. Let’s step it up a bit radical affordable healthcare a beautiful affordable pleasure leisure facility in Newcastle upon Tyne. Better than the Romans xx

Feb 5 2015
Great idea. Would think there would be demand from city workers for a high end service

Feb 5 2015
Definitely should be reopened. Needs a little maintenance (cracks in ceiling/floor of steam room). Maybe use some essential oil in steam room too.

Feb 4 2015
I loved the turkish baths and spent a lot of time there, sharing many happy memories. It seems such a shame for such a resource in the centre of newcastle to be closed. Please reopen the turkish baths!

Feb 4 2015
It’s a gem in the city centre, I can’t believe it closed. I would commit more to its opening than I did previously, as I now appreciate and miss it.

Feb 4 2015
I used to Love this place and came regularly. Please bring it back.

Feb 4 2015
Asset for the city – unique! Don’t let it fall into disrepair.

Feb 4 2015
I loved meeting friends and relaxing at the baths. Its an important community venue that increases happiness and well being.

Feb 4 2015
The baths were a great, affordable place to go either as an individual or with friends – I would love to see them run as a community asset in future, and would be happy to help if needed

Feb 4 2015
Such a good idea! The closure of the Turkish baths has felt like such a loss to the facilities that Newcastle offers. It always felt like an amazing space for relaxation and recuperation. There is nowhere else that has the same atmosphere

Feb 4 2015
It has the potential to be a significant tourist as well as local attraction. Many people in the area did not know it existed and was under promoted as a city attraction. It has the potential to attract from a wide range of clients and could be more widely promoted through hotels , tourist information, sporting venues, buses, hoardings, university campus, local organisations, WIs , sporting club, adverts in NUFC programmes, reports on campaign on tv/ local radio

Feb 4 2015
I think it is important to reopen the baths. The architecture is unique and used to be a jewel of Newcastle

Feb 4 2015
I regularly used the Turkish baths as a real oasis in the town to relax. They are a real asset to the city, with huge potential to improve and extend the range of services on offer.

Feb 3 2015
It should never have closed! It’s a beautiful building. The Turkish & sauna suite was class! The staff some years ago were lovely! They did it right.

Feb 3 2015
They are wonderful and at this time of year, much missed. They really helped me manage stress and sore back. Plus a real unique feature of Newcastle I was proud to take friends to

Feb 3 2015
Im now a tourist but wish I could visit the baths every time I come home.

Feb 3 2015
Spending a couple of hours at the Turkish baths with a book was the ultimate in relaxation for me I would love to do this more in my forthcoming retirement

Feb 3 2015
I think it’s great that the Turkish Baths could re-open

Feb 3 2015
I would love the baths to reopen. They are a jewel in newcastle’s crown with historic significance and a lovely oasis in the city centre.

Feb 3 2015
I was devastated (and I don’t use the word lightly) when the baths were closed. They were a haven for me and I would be delighted if they reopened.

Feb 3 2015
I would love the Turkish Baths to open together with the two pools – hope one doesn’t open without the other. The building in its entirety will hopefully be maintained for the heritage of the city.

Feb 3 2015
The Turkish Bath is a hidden gem that needs to be kept alive, so many people need a little special time in their busy lives.

Feb 3 2015
The bath is a hugely important resource, better advertising and a little investment is all it would take to get it thriving. I’ve been travelling to Harrogate in the time it’s been closed. Would much rather be spending this money in Newcastle

Feb 3 2015
This is an iconic building. If it was done up properly it would be very well used. Old dirty and cold floors and changing rooms are what put me off any pool. All of newcastles pools suffer from dirty and cold changing rooms. That is why I go over to Killingworth pool.

Feb 3 2015
Well done!

Feb 3 2015
In the time it has been closed I’ve really missed it, particularly in the Winter months-nothing nicer than sitting in the baths then going out into the cold, snowy weather glowing with warmth.

Feb 3 2015
Great idea wish I had used it more but needs to be clean and top quality

Feb 3 2015
Please re-open!!!

Feb 3 2015
Just wish u luck I’m so looking forward to use Turkish Baths.

Feb 2 2015
This would mean so much. It’s such a great way for people to relax and we don’t have enough of things like this in Newcastle. If everybody had this experience the city would be a calmer place!

Feb 2 2015
I am not local (I live in London) but I used to use the baths whenever I was in the area, and hope to do so again. I strongly support your plans, and wish you the very best of luck with them

Feb 2 2015
Keen to support and promote. I would love to see the Turkish back open

Feb 2 2015
I will be really looking for to the grand opening, i miss them, i would like to apply to work their as a massage therapist

Feb 2 2015
I’d love the pool to reopen as part of it’s redevelopment – it’s park of the whole experience. I’m also a keen swimmer and go three times a week, so a visit would fit in with my plans.

Feb 2 2015
I only found out about the Turkish Baths after several years of living in the city. I would love to see them reopened but I don’t think enough people know that they are there. If they are reopened they should be heavily marketed to both locals and tourists – and made an asset and a tourist attraction not a secret to the few in the know!

Feb 2 2015
I do not see why this could not be as successful as the one in Harrogate

Feb 2 2015
Would be a fantastic move, I had been a user of the Turkish for 20 years when it closed

Feb 2 2015
Very supportive – would consider donating monies to keep it going

Feb 2 2015
Please reopen the baths!

Feb 2 2015
Should never have closed

Feb 2 2015
Please open your doors again …haway ..?

Feb 2 2015
It would be wonderful if it reopened. i didn’t get to use it as much as i would have liked but regularly do wellbeing activities now so would use it a lot, esp now i work in town

Feb 2 2015
I’m really excited about the possibility of the Turkish opening again I really miss this place

Feb 2 2015
Would have ticked up to £12 if i could but cheaper preferable for more regular use

Feb 2 2015
Really hoping they do re open

Feb 2 2015
Just do it! It’s such an important part of the city. Before it closed down, I did a photo project in there, and met some amazing people who used it a lot. Some people had being going for more than 50 years. It’s such an important part of the fabric of Newcastle. Please open it again!

Feb 2 2015
Really excited about the possibilities. I can see what it would look like, what the potential is and I believe it could run successfully.

Feb 2 2015
Good luck!

Feb 2 2015
Supportive of the idea subject to full refurbishment within limits of style and heritage of the building.

Feb 2 2015
I’d be interested in pamper packages and offers for attending with friends

Feb 2 2015
It would really promote wellbeing

Feb 2 2015
I’ve missed it so much was a lovely place to relax

Feb 2 2015
The Turkish Baths are a much needed facility that I used to attend regularly. It was an affordable way to have ‘me-time’ and do my own beauty treatments etc. it really helped my stress levels and the health of my skin. I recently developed arthritis and now, more than ever, need the Turkish Baths for my health. I would go at least once a week, probably more, if it was available and affordable. I cannot stress enough that it needs to be affordable.

Feb 2 2015
I really hope this opens at an affordable price for local people to use as before. It doesn’t need to be high luxury – just as it was, was perfect for me. Best of luck!

Feb 2 2015
I lived this place and used it very often. I was so upset that it closed,it felt like a treasure of our city. What a waste of a beautiful space when it closed down!

Feb 2 2015
Please reopen if at all possible

Feb 2 2015
I love them but I have to admit I was always a bit put off by the price. I would definitely start going again if it re-opened, amazing space

Feb 2 2015
I would love for it to be back open in used to use it all the time no where else does what they do

Feb 2 2015
It’s on a door step …open it up …it looks gloomy

Feb 2 2015
It seems a terrible shame that such a resource cannot be open to the public.

Feb 2 2015
Since the pool closed I struggled to maintain regular visits to aqua fit classes elsewhere in the city subsequently my health and fitness has deteorated. I haven’t been able to get to a pool for over a year. As someone who has mobility problems swimming and aqua fit were vital to me. As I also took an older friend with me she also has not been able to get to a pool. Both our physical and mental health problems have been exacerbated by not being able to go.

Feb 2 2015
I’d really love the pool to re-open as the option of using the UNN pool just didn’t work as it was so busy and the opening hours weren’t long enough.

Feb 1 2015
I think that the option for nudist sessions during the week would help boost numbers. Most people prefer to be naked in a sauna/Turkish Bath and if couples weren’t allowed this option then it would mean that they would have to attend separately which could mean a lot of couples being put off.

Feb 1 2015
V.Good

Feb 1 2015
Loved coming here with friends. Would love to see them open again. Maybe the ‘Best Kept Secret’ wasn’t to their long term advantage!

Feb 1 2015
A wonderful local resource which just needs good marketing. People want pampered in this stressful society. Supply and demand. Cater for the way we live today.

Feb 1 2015
Could not state my support for re opening more strongly!

Feb 1 2015
It would be a fantastic idea! Nothing like it in Newcastle.

Feb 1 2015
Bring it on

Feb 1 2015
I think it’s a great idea, the city needs something different and with no real public baths within the city centre I think it’s just what the city needs. I really think this would be popular with students as well as older ages. Personally I’d prefer it if it was mainly over 18s that were able to use the baths, I cant see it being treated as it should otherwise.

Feb 1 2015
Great idea

Feb 1 2015
Would be wonderful to have one preserved and available in Newcastle. Carlisle and Harrogate are popular

Feb 1 2015
I hope this survey is based on a genuine possibility that the baths could re-open. They are missed.

Feb 1 2015
I really miss the baths – please do it!!

Feb 1 2015
Winter is hard without the turkish baths

Feb 1 2015
Although I am probably going against the prevailing wisdom, the requirement for costumes is unhygienic and reduces the effectiveness of the Turkish bath

Feb 1 2015
Really miss the turkish baths, especially in the winter. In terms of pricing I’ve ticked the £8.50-£10 price bracket as this would allow me to use the baths as often as I’d like to. I’d be happy to pay more for entry if that’s what it took to re open them but just wouldn’t be able to visit as often – which is why I’ve ticked the lower price box. (Hope that makes sense.) It’s hard to put a value on something as fantastic as baths, one of the things I loved about them was the sense of equality and that wellbeing was something which should be made available to all, not a privilige or luxury indulgence. This place was so valuable as a way of unwinding and relaxing especially in the cold winter, I find myself missing it most days. I really hope there’s a way of getting it open again, it’s shocking really that such an unusual resource wasn’t better cared for when the funding was around.

Feb 1 2015
Please do! Miss it so much.

Feb 1 2015
I am very excited to hear that this is going to happen. I think the reason it closed before is that it was very poorly advertised, people who have lived in the north east their entire lives didn’t know anything about it. If it does re-open I think advertising will be very important.

Feb 1 2015
Highly support the plan for re open the Turkish bath

Feb 1 2015

I’d love to see these open again!

Feb 1 2015
I think it’s a fantastic idea

Feb 1 2015
I definately miss having these facilities as was a regular user of the baths & would be again. Feel so much better after using them.

Feb 1 2015
This is such an important and unusual facility for a city that promoting it along side other attractions within Newcastle / Gateshead attractions.

Feb 1 2015
I’m very excited about the prospect and happy to get involved if you need any help! Yay for the turkish baths!

Feb 1 2015
It should be promoted like harrogate does with it’s spa. it is a beautiful asset to the city.

Feb 1 2015
Open them

Feb 1 2015
As I remember the place just needed a good clean up and refresh. Also think you are missing out on the hen do/party crowd that flock to Newcastle. If there was a package for them with spa treatments then I think there would be more business.
Feb 1 2015
Impossible to say when i would use it, and too boring to tick all times.

Feb 1 2015
It would be wonderful to have this facility again. It would also be nice to introduce my children to it age appropriately

Feb 1 2015
I moved from London to Newcastle the month the baths shut and was devastated. It had been one of the things I was looking forward to about being in Newcastle!

Feb 1 2015
It would be so good to have this facility back

Feb 1 2015
Better advertising for the Turkish Baths would be useful when they are reopened. I know people who have lived in Newcastle all thier lives and had never heard of them. Thanks for all your great work!

Feb 1 2015
I think you should market it for hen dos

Feb 1 2015
Please do it! It’d be awesome to have a Turkish Bath in Newcastle!

Feb 1 2015
Would be absolutely over the moon as my friends and I miss it terribly. It is a brilliant cute for my bad back and is an amazing place to show off to visitors to city. It’s always had a really special & secret vibe! However ££8.50 is steep for entry. Possibly making it more affordable & more will attend more regularly.

Feb 1 2015
A focus on good healthy food. Either through having pop up stalls or partnerships with company’s or some of the stalls in the Grainger market. Food is a big draw so if you can supply good quality food the baths can become more of a destination. Also in the summer if possible to have an area outside to sit in the sun after a swim ( again this would be great with nice food or smoothies/juices)

Feb 1 2015
Definitely a viable business here.

Feb 1 2015
It’s a tragic loss to the cities culture. It was a gem in the city and I wish it was still open. I absolutely adored going.

Feb 1 2015
The price should include a swim too.

Feb 1 2015
It was such a shame when the Turkish baths closed. Myself and my friends would meet there and enjoyed the calm and social time there. Please re-open!!!

Feb 1 2015
I am very keen for the baths to re open I used the Turkish baths a lot if is a great miss to lots of people

Feb 1 2015
I loved the Turkish Baths. It was a real gem – unique and like nowhere else. More massage facilities, longer evening opening times, better advertising and a better booking system would be great.

Feb 1 2015
Great idea, am so glad you are still working on this. I thought it was all forgotten about.

Jan 31 2015
Please reopen. It was a gem in the city but single sex sessions were its downfall

Jan 31 2015
Please do it!!!!!!!!!!

Jan 31 2015
Recovering from back and neck injuries following an accident the Turkish baths were genuinely invaluable. The only way I could get warm, and, to begin with the only place I could sleep for over a year. I have really felt the loss of this service and would certainly pay considerably more for it to return. I also feel very strongly that the historic value of the baths should be preserved for future generations. It’s really is a very special and unusual facility which should be preserved and made available to the public.

Jan 31 2015
I really enjoyed the baths when I used them previously, it would be great to be able to go again

Jan 31 2015
Good luck hope it reopens it really was an oasis of calm . Would totally love it if a proper Turkish scrub service was available .

Jan 31 2015
Turkish bath was one of the attraction places of Newcastle. And a place for friends to have a high quality day out with fun. We want this back please

Jan 31 2015
Would be great to have them back!

Jan 31 2015
I stumbled upon this by accident years ago – a real gem, not very well publicised but a truly beautiful example of art deco ?? opulence. In an age where everything is part of chain or all from the same boring blueprint why close this? ?? It’s a treasure of Newcastle. Don’t let it go the way of the handyside arcade or old eldon square! !!!

Jan 31 2015
I used to use the baths rather regularly, mostly to the nudist sessions, i think it would be great if it re opened again.

Jan 31 2015
Such a miss, I do hope it opens again soon!

Jan 31 2015
It was an amazing place, and peaceful.

Jan 31 2015
very good luck…please do it! They are such a miss

Jan 31 2015
Please open them.

Jan 31 2015
Please do it! It was wonderful. I am now looking at Waves in N Tyneside because I would regularly use a spa type facility but would much rather (as a NCC employee and a resident of Newcastle) pay for a Newcastle service and use it to keep it open!

Jan 31 2015
I really miss the Turkish Baths, good luck in the campaign to reopen.

Jan 31 2015
It’s a great miss to the city it was a unique and special hidden gem

Jan 31 2015
Would really like them to reopen

Jan 31 2015
I LOVE TURKISH BATHS

Jan 31 2015
Good luck. Are you looking to fundraise via crowd funding or peer to peer lending? I would consider supporting you.

Jan 31 2015
Nothing else like it

Jan 31 2015
It should never have closed

Jan 31 2015
Have you thought about a co-op? Like the Jazz cafe co-op that bought the globe. I’d definitely buy a share of the baths.

Jan 31 2015
In my opinion this is a much needed facility. Reopening the baths is a very good idea.

Jan 31 2015
This was such a peaceful private nook when I was new to the city, which made a huge difference to my wellbeing! I don’t necessarily think over-60s should get concessions, as most I know are much better off than anyone else!

Jan 31 2015
I miss it a lot. Such a gem.

Jan 31 2015
Not enough facilities like this – definitely support it reopening

Jan 31 2015
I liked going naked in the bath and would like to see this return, But it would need policing

Jan 31 2015
Mother’s Day package,with cream tea/afternoon tea.

Jan 31 2015
Please do

Jan 31 2015
It’s a crime not to. It’s an incredible and sellable piece of Newcastles history

Jan 31 2015
I always enjoyed the baths it is a fantastic place to relax in our city centre

Jan 31 2015
Lounge/relaxation area please.

Jan 31 2015
Whatever happens with reopening of the baths I’d like to see a pricing structure that keeps it fairly accessible. I love the mix of people you used to get in.

Jan 31 2015
It would be a real shame to let one of the first Turkish baths in the country go to pot for lack of funding, whereas money is wasted elsewhere.

Jan 31 2015
Very good idea!

Jan 31 2015
It is a real gem and could easily combine basics and luxury treatments.

Jan 31 2015
I live in central Scotland hence low frequency of visit noted in survey. Never been to Newcastle baths but have visited Harrogate & would definitely like to visit if (hopefully when baths reopen as part of a day trip to or weekend in Newcastle. Probably most likely a girls get together so single sex sessions would be good. Following your news on fb. Good luck with the campaign!

Jan 31 2015
I don’t live in newcastle anymore but come in once a week for shopping or cinema and to meet friends. Having the city pool open again would be great but I wouldn’t use it more than once a week

Jan 31 2015
I so hope you manage to succeed in this mission….it is a fantastic facility that we are/were very lucky to have….

Jan 31 2015
I would love to use the Turkish baths again.

Jan 31 2015
If it’s going to be a god awful modern spa with whale music selling ‘beauty’ I won’t come at all. If it’s a quiet retreat from the world I’ll be there as often as I can.

Jan 31 2015
Great!

Jan 31 2015
This is an exciting prospect and would be a unique experience in newcastle

Jan 31 2015
Would be more keen for swimming but Turkish baths were very nice

Jan 31 2015
The baths were always a great place to go with friends, especially in the winter – an affordable luxury treat in the heart of the city. A calm space that was good for physical health and social bonding. Even if it was open at more limited times and slightly more expensive than previously it would still be well used. Advertising & knowledge of the baths seemed to be a problem in the past so perhaps improving those areas would bring more business in & make it more viable.

Jan 31 2015
Many customers stopped attending the Turkish/sauna when swimwear became compulsory during women only and men only sessions: an unpopular policy also adopted by GLL which is taking over other leisure facilities in Newcastle. So it would be a good idea to revert to swimwear being optional.

Jan 31 2015
Go for it, would be great to have it back.

Jan 31 2015
It needs to be done well – to be very clean and inviting.

Jan 31 2015
Advertise it more – it was always a secret no one knew about

Jan 31 2015
I have lived in Newcastle all my life and i didn’t know about it until it was about to close!! Such a shame. We should market and advertise this amazing resource.

Jan 31 2015

A great range of massage times e.g. Half hour or hour slots Greater spreading of the benefits of the place. I really hope you are successful!!

Jan 31 2015
I really hope you are successful! Amazing building and needs to be re-opened for all to enjoy.

Jan 31 2015

Please do, I miss it a lot!

Jan 31 2015

Was a great asset to the city

Jan 31 2015
 missed!! bring it back please!!!

Jan 31 2015
This was a unique service that I took great pleasure in using whenever I was in Newcastle. I miss it and would certainly use it were it to re open.

I think re opening the baths is a wonderful idea. I miss my regular turkish bath and massage and think its a great miss to the city.

I would like to see the baths reopen as it formerly was: a place which was accessible to the majority of the community and which offered facilities for serious swimmers. Would definitely want the swimming pool to remain a pool, not a space for family and activity sessions (a need which is largely filled by other pools around the city). I would love it if prices could remain as they were before but would be prepared to pay more (as reflected in my survey responses) if it were a choice between a more expensive baths and no baths.

Combined swim and sauna prices would be good 🙂

Such an unique place, would be fantastic,if pool opened again!

I used the baths more than once a week for a considerable period before they closed, usually along with the swimming pool. Also, I feel strongly that mixed gender sessions (or having all sessions mixed gender) is very important, so that gender-nonconforming people feel welcome. I’d also note that if this were handled in the right way, gender non-conforming people could be a new population to market reopened baths to.

It would be great to see the baths reopen

Great idea, they should never have shut.

Turkish baths helped me deal with the chronic pain condition I have.

I fully support plans to reopen the Turkish Baths

I think it is good to have the prices lower rather than at premium prices as the best thing about the baths was that is was accessible to more people due to the pricing so you would be happy to use it weekly (or more) rather than a treat every few months.

Never been but would go if re-opens

Oh yes please do. It’s an amazing space with such history and needs to be a city attraction

I think massage should be a little longer for $£12+ Seasonal use of the baths should be considered. I tend to only use them in the winter months

I used to swim regularly at City baths. Now simply don’t swim as it was the most convenient. Would’ve it to reopen. Losing it once would make me support it more.

Very excited about idea of Turkish baths ‘re opening

I hope you are successful, it isn’t for me, so I won’t come, but the people who want it should have access to this service available & for it to stand empty is a crime against the heritage of Newcastle.
